Are smart glasses an invasion of privacy?

Personally (Edit: ethically and philosophically) speaking, I think other people's eyes are an invasion of privacy sometimes.

What privacy? There are cameras everywhere legal and illegal. We willingly put our information out there for everyone to see.

They don't come into my home, period and I reserve the right to avoid contact with you if you use them.

My response is to wear dumb glasses (dark sunglasses) and my Covid face mask.

I would say it depends on how they are used.
There was a case in the UK news recently of someone videoing a person without their knowledge, puting the video on-line & suggesting it would be taken down on payment of a fee.

Lawyers could no doubt spend months debating the legality of the case, but to my mind the moral answer is obvious.

A Barnack Leica is just about as capable as being an instrument used to invade someone's privacy.
As usual, it isn't the instrument, it is the operator.

But the Barnack Leica doesn't electronically relay every second of the day back to a database that sells information to Palantir and other like entities...

If someone was taking photographs with a Barnack Leica in a public lavatory, Many people would question what they are doing. If someone is wearing smart glasses they would not be aware of what they were doing.

Either way though, it is the "someone" who is the problem here.
Weegee comes to mind.

Even Weegee with his IR covert cinema pictures didn't really cross the line of decency (in my opinion). But smart glasses opens a door to perverts and others. But then I guess you can't stop technological progress.

Who has privacy any longer? Everywhere you look, there are cellphones being used, front door cameras, automobile visor cameras, etc. If you want privacy, you have to go into your closet and shut the door.
