The generative AI craze from 2023 and 2024 got me back into photography after a long hiatus when I started to look into film photography as a way to resist the commoditization of making art. I bought a cheap Yashica 6x6 off eBay and I fell in love. Shooting film actually got me back into non-smartphone digital photography again, including some casual videography too.
Although I don't make prints, I do develop my own negatives and have enjoyed exploring different stocks and developers, eventually settling on Fomapan, Svema and Ilford Delta as my preferred stocks of choice. I'm currently doing a Project 365 challenge, and have missed very few days. I enjoy shooting events and portraits, but as a hobbyist finding portrait subjects has been a bit of a challenge (although some folks in the community did take me up on free portraits during Pride month last year when I posted on my local subreddit).
I've learned at lot about film/dark room processing from web searching thanks to these forums and I'm glad to see independent BB/forums are still a thing and still active. Looking forward to actively spending more time here.
