Hi folks,

I found an old educational filmstrip and I'm trying to scan it and restore the colors to something close to normal. I'm using VueScan, and I tried all the different filter and white balance settings, but I can't get rid of the red. I'm not even sure if it's in color--maybe it's black-and-magenta monochrome?

I appreciate any advice for how to scan this stuff and how to process it in Photoshop.

Thanks in advance--

Adam

Have you tried pulling it into Photoshop or GIMP and using auto white balance there? It’s not always right, but I’ve had pretty good luck with it correcting badly magenta-shifted images.

Looks like cyan and yellow left the building for good. Not much you can do about this except run it through AI and let it guess the colors. Here's what Copilot made of it:

Looks plausible although there's of course no guarantee that the red and blue screens are even close to what they really were.

Thanks, Koraks. That look pretty good, but if I have to resort to AI, I might just make it black and white.

Yeah, it didn't really work. But thanks for the idea.

Ha! When I tried it with Copilot, it didn't just adjust the colors. It also changed the text. So I think I'll settle for black and white.
