My name is kayo, I am an international first year student currently located in the Bay Area. I have been doing digital photography for two years and only in the last two or three months slowly returning back to film - my first ever camera being a blue Olympus xa2 from my grandfather some years ago.

Some of my other hobbies are braiding, writing, oil painting and all kinds of consumerism which I prefer to call collecting (in terms of cameras I am currently looking at some alpa stuff). I have also dabbled in some watch and electronic repair/modding so I think I would be quite interested in learning about such for cameras.

I am mostly interested in nature photography. Street photography (people) is still a little frightening for me. Looking to learn little by little more about everything and enjoy!

Some photos from April of last year.

Welcome to Photrio.

Well... It's always nice to know that I'm not the only weirdo that calls "buying puzzles" to all the junk that I buy to repair. I've been int watches and radios, before I went into college, then started on fixing cameras, but also worked on turntables, typewriters and cassette players. Now I have a puzzle called "Broken Olivetti Suma 20", for wich I think I may have gone too far this time...

Street photography is quite frighting (I don't do it much) but one thing that helped me was: use your bulkiest, loudest and cool-looking camera". It will give you self-confidence 'cause you're letting everyone know you're there taking photographs (I used a TLR). Or, you can use a Minolta 16 and everyone thinks you are some crazy person who thinks is a Soviet spy, and don't even imagine that the camera actually works and you're taking photos (it actually works, people even smile! or they pursuit you for three blocks to teach you the lesson...)

Welcome to Photrio, and beautiful photographs!

Thanks for the advice! I'm also interested in mechanical typewriters after experiencing a friend's, and by coincidence, I had just learned about the Minolta 16 within the past few weeks - will surely try taking my 500ELM or RB67 out onto the street.

Welcome to Photrio! Great floral photographs.
