I ALWAYS wear nitrile gloves when loading/unloading sheet film holders. This is definitely a first for me. HP5 8x10. I wonder who the dirty culprit was?

Whoa.

I have to admit I never wear any gloves when loading sheet film, and I've never managed a fingerprint.

Surely that must have happened during processing or printing.

FWiW, that doesn't look like a fingerprint to me, although as presented its a bit disorienting.
It certainly isn't pretty.

Nope. Couldn't have happened during processing because as I said, I wore gloves. Also BTZS tube was used. Haven't printed it yet. It's hanging up drying still.
@MattKing it's a fingerprint.

Well, that should make the remaining sheets of film from that box interesting...

Andy,
I expect, as a former high school photo teacher, you probably can identify a fingerprint on film
It's just hard to identify what we are looking at.
Can you share a photo from a bit farther away, so we can figure out what is where?

Watching the Canucks game at the moment. Maybe later...

I have used about half of the box, and they've all been fine. I still have to develop another sheet though, but not 'til tomorrow...

That wouldn't have happened if you'd stuck to X-ray film 🤔 . That could have been there before Harman received the polyester "film" prior to coating with emulsion. Need some forensic science here!

Ink? Some sort of chemical? Pretty darn prominent mark. Need to get Scotland Yard to search their database.

Paw print - do you have a cat?

You should write to Ilford. They can roll their eyes and say "Yeah, you wear gloves, sure you do, sure you do. But on one or both hands?" It's like getting someone pregnant in spite of wearing a condom.

How do they get the sheets in the bag? Probably by hand? Maybe someone wasn't wearing gloves? And was sweating polysulfide? Maybe he'd just finished his lunch with a lot of black salt seasoning.

Just send it to CSI Washington and let those crime solvers have a crack at it.😄 Kidding aside, hard to believe how that happened.

Someone has to load those master rolls in the film slitters at Ilford...

Maybe they had a good sardine, onion and mayo sandwich just before returning to work.

If the film is 10 years expired or more, might be Simon Galley's... 🧐

Or it could be from... A GHOST!!! 👻 *dun dun DUNNNN*

Do a set of your finger prints and get AI to compare.
I'll assume you are kidding...As I stated previously, my skin did not touch the film. So that would be pointless... 🤔Actually, I tell a lie. I made contact with it when I hung it up to dry... 😁
