I've had this printer for about 10 years. Mothballed it about eight years ago, as I picked up a refurbished P400. The P400 was great, but died last Summer. Pulled out the 3800, pulled out all the refillable cartridges which were about half full, and gave them a little shake, did a nozzle check, one cleaning, and the thing printed out a clean nozzle check pattern! So, I made a digital negative. Looked good, except for the banding. Then I remembered that is why I mothballed it for the P400. Well, after searching on the internet, apparently the 3800 can be front loaded. I had no idea. So I tried it, and wouldn't you know it? No banding!

Really? I wouldn't have expected front loading would make a difference w.r.t. banding since it's about head/nozzle alignment. I should try it sometime.

Good news, but when I saw your thread title I thought it was going to be about one of your videos regarding photographing a piece of construction machinery
Might others refer to that as feeding transparency material or paper from the front?

"Front-end loader"...??

Then a printer gets a mention...

Bit of a disappointment.

More commonly called bypass feed or bypass tray.

I thought and was initially looking for, a large Caterpillar front-end loader...

Bit of a disappointment.

I was disappointed too.

You'd think that with all that hardware, he could have dug a little deeper into the banding issue. He really only just scratched the surface here, and didn't get into the nitty gritty of it.
