There shouldn’t be, as long as the card’s speed specs are in-line with the camera’s requirements.
Even if it isn’t, it should work, but the camera may not give you its best performance in frames per second or video performance.
B&H’s website shows at least one 16GB card as compatible with an M-D 262

The M-D 262 is all manual.
Thank you…📷

You'll be able to store 'only' half the pictures that the 32GB card would take. It's still a heck of a lot.

In principle, if the card physically fits and its capacity is smaller than the maximum capacity the camera can address, it should work just fine.

Actually, 32GB is too much for my shooting experiences in Italy and the Netherlands. I’d rather use a 16GB SD card for better organization…🧐

A 32GB card is easy to organize as a 16GB one as long as they contain the same number of images.
The 32GB card has the advantage that in case file organization will have to wait some more, you can continue photographing without worry.

As long as the quality is the same I can always pick and choose…🥸

I dont know who else here uses digital M bodies ( I do ). The question is not irrelevant. I have found the digital M bodies sometimes a tiny bit temperamental when it came to SD cards. So any advice of "it will be fine" is to be taken with a grain of salt.

If you have more specific advice to share, then I'm sure it'll be appreciated. In general, within the same interface, SD cards should be compatible. However, SD is more temperamental than e.g. CF overall (regardless of camera brand). The stories of odd incompatibilities that on paper should not exist seem a little more frequent than they were when CF was the default.

Just to remember: M240 and M262 are over ten years old. Beyond SD access, they also show some quirks in other dimensions, when I usually resort to a "hard reset" to wake the camera up from its sudden beauty sleep.

"They all do that, sir", and "it is a feature, not a bug". Maybe future Leica digital simulate these quirks, like artificially aged Custom Shop Stratocasters and their cigarette burns.
