Major Atget Show

ICP in New York is hosting a major exhibit of original prints by Eugene Atget (1857-1927), Jan. 29 through May 4. Curated by David Campany , this will be a blockbuster requiring a special trip to NYC for Atget fans, like me. Among other things, I consider Atget to be the profound link between 19th and 20th century photography.

The first time I saw original Atget prints was at a special invitation day out at the V&A in London, for myself and a group of other photographic specialists, where a group of us were able to view actual prints from a variety of photographic artists. All the Atget prints were contacts prints at his negative size. Some years later while working at a college that had theatre seating with a very powerful computer projector, I showed a series of Atget images at about 30 feet accross. At that size in a dark theatre they were truely amazing.
