  1. Let's talk about cataract surgery.....

Had both knees replaced 10 months apart 10 years ago, rehab PT was affected by anticholesteral statin prescription. No more knee pain, though. Thanks for the video post, but I have no desire to watch the procedure. Had cataract procedures 2 months apart over 3 years ago. Ophthalmologist had...

A76 vs S76 batteries with Nikon Cameras...your experience.

This issue has come up in this forum before -- back in 2010. I found it at https://www.photrio.com/forum/threads/sr44-vs-357-batteries.60313/n One aspect  has changed since then, in that the low-current draw but otherwise identical 303 silver oxide variant has been included in the product...

Old Nikon SLRs consistently overexposing, but only in strong light?

Don't know for sure if this has any bearing, but the Nikon FE and FG use the historic 60/40 weighting, while the F90X/N90s were set up with 80/20 bias.
  4. Returning to Photrio

Hello, anyone and everyone. I let my subscription lapse a few years back in response to declining health, as back and leg issues kept me from getting to do the garden and arboretum photography I love. An accident earlier this year that temporarily immobilized me led to stays in a hospital and...

(Old) Canon F-1 Owners here? What year was it being produced via serial no, and other things...

First, finding when your vintage Canon was built isn't too difficult. Canon printed a date code on each film camera and lens. It was on the film cassette cavity in the cameras (you need a penlight to help you find it, as it's dark ink printed on the gloss black film chamber surface). There are...

Minimum alternate macro setup to macro lens?

Hello, anyone, Having just reactivated my Photrio membership after a long layoff (I feel much better now!), this thread caught my attention, since close-focus garden photography has been my "thing" for almost 30 years. My budget was also limited when starting out, so screw-in close-up lenses...

For Sale Spiratone 18mm F3.5 for Nikon F (YS Adapter) - Good Condition

+1 A very interesting read, indeed. I still have Spiratone items I bought new at their Flushing, Queens, NY store in mid-1970s, and they still work.

  9. Passing... Rowland "Ron" Mowrey aka PE, Photo Engineer, Feb. 15, 2020

Amen, indeed. PE's contributions are immeasurable, and we are all that much better for his influence and shared knowledge. He will be sorely missed.

For Sale Spiratone 18mm F3.5 for Nikon F (YS Adapter) - Good Condition

Something not covered in the YS mount instruction manual reproduced by Butkus is that YS mounts have the same length as T2 mounts (AKA T-mounts). Thus, if you want to use this non-AI Nikon YS lens with a Minolta, Canon, Miranda, or even Leicaflex SLR and are unable to source an appropriate YS...

    Which Canon EOS?

IIRC, the 650/620/630/600/RT series and EOS 10s were equipped with a dedicated button for DOF preview . All models with ECF included an eyeball sensor for DOF preview, but may not have had the button - I looked over the online users' manuals for the A2 and A2e and saw no reference to one on either.
  12. Is using the camera in manual that difficult.

The Canon FTb was my first SLR [1971]. While I don't have that particular camera any more, I got a replacement a few years back, and sent it to Garry for a CLA. The rectangle you see in the center of the viewfinder is the area being metered. The meter is insensitive over the rest of the...

    For Sale Pentax MX w/SMC-M 50mm f/2 Lens, CLA'd in 2017

OK, folks, the fellow who sent me the offer on this MX never answered my message accepting his offer, and has been inactive on the forum ever since. So this MX is packed and ready to ship. I was asking $100 plus shipping but am open to a reasonable offer. Thanks and regards, Vince

    Which Canon EOS?

Manual mode operation is where EOS camera lines differ. The EOS 650/620/630/600 set shutter speeds from the handgrip control wheel, and required holding down a front-panel Manual Aperture button for setting tle f-stop. AFAIK, all the Rebels and rhe 10/10s operate the same way. The 1989 EOS 1...
  15. Vivitar 220/SL

The short answer is yes. The battery is only for the camera's built-in light meter, and while the 1.35 volt mercury cell the camera was designed for is no longer made, currently available type 675 zinc-air hearing aid batteries are the exact same physical size and close enough in voltage to be...
