    Leica R3: Mission Aperture Priority

Sorry for the radio silence. I've been busy with work past weeks. I've officially given up. I think i cracked the brown cap under PCB B, so now the shutter stays open for a long time, no matter the setting, and then comes down again. I'm gonna sell the camera for parts probably. Thanks for all...

Well, i'm back at it again. When firing, the mirror just stays up and won't come down anymore. I replaced C1 with my spare body with water damage and soldered the other brown cap back too. But now the mirror just stays up in manual and automatic until i remove the battery, then only B and X work...

Interesting!!! Currently i feel a little lost. I picked it up again to work on the steps Nimbus wrote and suddenly the mirror would stay up after firing. Turns out some wires on top disconnected, so after fixing that i'm suddenly back on track. - manual times seem to work okay now. 4s is very...

I took the bottom off and cleaned S'4 with some isopropyl, i don't have contact cleaner atm. afterwards i fired the shutter a lot of times and the result is the same. on '4s' - fires instantly, no light through shutter - fires but shorter than 4s. between 0.5s and 2s. switches between these 2...

Hey! sorry, late reply - no battery, open back, X: i see light - no battery, open back, other speeds: no light - battery, manual speed 1s 2s 4s: mostly work, sometimes faster, sometimes no light - battery, automatic: sometimes really long (+10 sec), sometimes no light hope that helps. I can...

Nimbus, thank you soo much for these insane reactions. I feel like im talking to the designer of the camera itself. Sadly i feel like this problem is starting to go to deep for me. I've repaired quite a few SLR's and point and shoots, but i'm getting pretty stuck on this one. Electronics aren't...

Thank you Nimbus! I'm trying to understand what to do. S7 could be the problem, so i need to check the voltage on pin 6 on IC1. IC1 is located under the film advance lever right? Which pin would be pin 6 in that case? And where would S7 be located? I just removed the 12V ceramic brown capacitor...

Too bad i'm just reading this now. I was testing the looking at the caps and thought the ceramic capacitor looked rather bad (the brown 12v 50^3 one). When i turned it to auto, fired the shutter and short circuited the legs of this one it would fire immediately instead of taking a few sec. So i...

Cleaned the magnets first. I took the front of, without unsoldering any wires and gave the magnets an isopropyl alcohol clean. Working shutter speeds again! All manual speeds work fine now, except auto. With the needle at 1/500 its firing at 3+ secs for example. Always taking very long, and...

Thanks for the crazy fast reply! I'm suspecting the caps too, it's just that these barely fail. To get to the magnet is a bit more tricky, so maybe i should start with the caps. I've seen you've taken them all out, which would you expect to fail first?

Hey Andreas, i got exactly the same problem. No jumpy needle, but the same shutter speed all over the dial. It's the mechanical shutter speed. I've got another R3 and if i take the batteries out, it shoots at the same speed all over the dial too. So my guess was that it's not getting any power...
