I have only ever used the Kiron version of this lens.
I have found it to be quite exceptional for its time, and able to hold its own with more modern lenses.
It is, however heavy, and this might be a consideration for some.

I can't help you with the diaphragm problem not going past f16.
For what it is worth, most enlarging lenses seem to perform at their sharpest at one or two stops down from their maximum aperture.
In this case f8 or f11

They are both outstanding lenses.
I have shot both but cannot recommend one over the other.
If you already have one you may not find any advantage in the other.

Miranda registration distance was only 41.5mm while others were longer.
This permitted the addition of an adapter

Because Miranda had a shorter registration distance than other makes, it offered adapter rings so that other makes of lens could be used on the body. M42, Nikon F, Canon FD and maybe even Pentax K mount I think
