A few years ago my Aunt gave me two rolls of undeveloped Kodak 120 film in really poor shape. It was shot at least 40 years before and the wrapping was loose. I told her it was probably badly fogged and there would be nothing there. I doubled development time and actually got a few recognisable...
Thanks all. The humidity on backing paper makes sense and I don't think I can lay too much blame on Ilford! In 25 years of shooting 120 I have never seen this before but these rolls were handled a bit differently to my normal practice. While in Iceland I removed the rolls from the cardboard and...
Hi,
Would appreciate some opinions about what caused the defects in these negatives (attached photos). A bit of background. I occasionally shoot some test rolls for a camera repairman friend. These negatives came from two different rolls of Ilford FP4 120 film shot on a 6x6 and 6x4.5 camera...
Appreciate the offer to organise again, Bernd. I'm unlikely to be printing lith/alt in the near future, but who knows if platinum and palladium prices crash sometime soon!
Hi, I always dry my fibre prints flat on flyscreen racks. Heating fibre while it hangs makes it curl even more than normal in my experience. I rarely have time pressure for producing a final fibre print so overnight drying is fine. If the darkroom is cold or humid I might put an oil space heater...
Hi, I converted an Ikea glass-sided display case as a drying cabinet. Cut a hole in the bottom and extended the height to provide hanging space for 35mm rolls of 36. Placed a small portable hotplate in the bottom. At the lowest temperature setting I set the timer to 35 minutes and all negs dry...
I converted mine to enlarge 8x10 and created a new step adjustable baseboard system. The baseboard is pretty easy to remove with 4 easy small bolts as I recall. It's a nice design, have fun with it.
Re spotting tips. I have one of those small plastic palettes with about 8 bowls and mix different dilutions from pure black to pale white and then let them dry first. Applying a barely wet brush to the dry ink to pick up colour and then jabbing it repeatedly with a very vertical motion with just...
Thanks also for this thread, David. Thanks to Bob Kersey and Mary Meyer at Black Mountain Photography Workshops, I did their Vision & Technique workshop in Australia in 2009 and their affection and strength of the partnership was evident while each pursued their individual artistic course.

Agree, Vaughn. Been a Sherman fan for a long time. I think any discomfort by the viewer comes from realising Cindy knows them perhaps a little too well!
Well, they're a remarkably shy and secretive lot! Very surprised in a city of 5 million there isn't a bit more activity. Perhaps they are all too cool to spend time in forums like this?
There was one APUG inspired get together 9 years ago, almost to the day, but nothing since. Melbourne scene...
1. LPL 67 diffuser with colour head. My first enlarger in 1983. Head now removed and used primarily as a copy stand.
2. Meopta Magnifax condenser. Classic enlarger picked up for $20 in about 1998 and now dedicated to paper flashing with ND and 00 filter
3. Meopta Opemus 7 condenser. Only one...
