what waS your last photography related purchase?

I've been really enamored with the Kentmere 200 film, so I bought another brick of 120 and one in 135 to try out. And a brick of Kentmere 100 120, either to do pinhole work or to put in the Rolleiflex and use for close-up work with Rolleinar.

    More Fomapan 400 120 defects

Foma in 120 format is the only film I have consistently had problems with. If I go through my records, I have had Ilford Pan-F 120 (before the plus days) that was expired, and some very expired Agfa APX25. Other than that, Fomapan 200 and 400 in 120 format have been a massive headache for me...

    More Fomapan 400 120 defects

To my knowledge yes. On some frames one can see the imprint of the ink on the backin paper as well, like the round dots and the numbers. I usually travel by train if I go somewhere to photograph, and this film has not been flying.

Scanning issue - Epson 850 Pro + Silverfast + Mac

I have the same problem with my V700, where if I scan film that has a shiny emulsion, like TMax 100 or TMax 400, I get that reflection along the side. On non-shiny emulsion films, like Ilford HP5+ or Fomapan 400, I get no such issues. Sometimes it works to scan the film by placing it directly on...

    More Fomapan 400 120 defects

Normal room temperature should be OK for b&w films, kept in their wrappers until shooting them, and processing within a few days should be good enough. No issues with Kodak, Ilford, or Kentmere under the same conditions, even outdated film of other brands don't behave like this.

Waking up an old thread here, just reporting that I had a batch of Fomapan 400 in 120 format that had the same problem it has had in the past with an imprint of the backing paper on the film. I had 20 rolls, out of which I used 11. Batch number 011756 5. Expiration date November 2025. - Rolls of...

Is everyone using Photoflow wrong, or is it just me and my professor?

Because wetting agents run the risk of causing one or more problems, the easiest way to avoid them is to simply put the wetting agent in a separate container. I use a bowl and I see-saw the film through it before I hang to dry. The problem I have had is that if the wetting agent is used in the...

    Bill Schwab RIP

I am so sorry to read this news. Bill was a very real human being whom I was fortunate to know a little bit over the years. He cared deeply about his family, always proud of them, especially his son. He was also incredibly generous and selfless with his friends and community members, and built a...

In defense of 100 (and 125) ISO film

I'm most definitely a 400 speed user, HP5+ and Kentmere 400 (or Rollei RPX400). 35mm and 120. But the odd roll of FP4+ sneaks in, primarily for pinhole, and currently I'm trying some Rollei RPX25 in 35mm for landscapes while hiking. But 400 is what my instincts are tuned to, so it's 95% of what...

    HP5 for a year!

It's very nice to be remembered by some of the folks I remember fondly! @pentaxuser - That's pretty funny! :) Here's a shot on 35mm HP5 that I shot on a walk in January 2022, recently scanned.

    HP5 for a year!

I came back here after a long time to find this wonderful post! :) How life carries on sometimes. Since last time I wrote anything in this post, I am also shooting HP5+ or Kentmere 400 / Rollei RPX400 (same thing), in 135 and 120, but process with ADOX FX-39 for 135 and PMK Pyro for 120.

    XTOL + TMX = sucky.

TMax 100 is a film I would use with Xtol to produce smooth tonality prints that are sharp and grainless per standard development. It can also be tweaked to produce different tonality by changing film exposure; because Xtol lifts shadow values a bit it can be made to have a different tonality in...
