Meter off the palm of your hand then add one stop of speed is old photographers trick. Of course make sure the light is the same on your palm as on the subject of the photo.
Classic. Lots of people feel the M2 probably the best shooter of them all. With a rangefinder, over time, most naturally gravitate to the 35mm focal length as a standard lens, and the 35mm frames on the M2 appear just by themselves. Sunny 16 and a handheld meter is easy to learn/use. M4's...
M2/M4 frame lines will be different compared to the M6 and the same frame lines. When the 28mm frames were introduced, they shrunk the others to make them fit. Particularly noticeable with 35mm and 50mm lines. The M6 frames are smaller. They justified it in two ways -- first, when using...
I got zapped by DHL not only for a tariff fee, but for a tariff processing fee. The processing fee almost as much as the tariff. Something to consider.
My wife's the MF shooter in the family, but she goes through long periods of not shooting, as a result a lot of out of date film. I know now to buy her film in much more limited quantities. We always buy new and cold store. In the past we've had numbers and words bleeding onto the film from...
No problem shooting cold stored 5-15 year past expiry date 35mm B&W film. Wouldn't risk MF because of backing paper issues, although in the right hands it could lend a creative aspect to the composition. Sort of a crap shoot with MF.
I've had a habit over the last 15 years of whenever buying chemicals, to just buy a couple hundred feet of B&W film too, to make the shipping costs worthwhile, whether I needed it or not. Cold stored it'll last many years past the expiration date. Still have a couple bricks of EFKE, but should...
The '70 Kodachrome price probably included developing too. Film has always been expensive, but I think the prices from 15-20 years ago were a bit artificially deflated due to the digital revolution.
Bulk load and home development, Arista branded Foma and sometimes Orwo -- > these are the way to keep costs down. Fortunately I like the look of Fomapan 100, 200. Not sure what I'd do if I were a color film shooter.
A Summicron Asph about 20 years ago where some internal piece broke and the aperture just went round and round, like a carousel. The well known Leica tech who fixed it in the US claimed that new leica lenses are junk because they're all plastic inside. She's know for her hyperbole, but you...
