    Notes to future repairers?

Writing with pencil directly on the camera is probably better than placing a separate note inside - notes can come loose.

    Instant Mytol Recipe

Perhaps slightly off topic... As john_s mentioned, Potassium carbonate is deliquescent, i.e., it absorbs water vapor from the air, so over time it will seem to get weaker if you always weigh out a fixed amount. When mixing chemistry (Pyrocat Part B in my case) I heat more than I need in a...

Can A Cracked Filter (Polarizer) Still Be of Use Without Image Degradation?

There's nothing like asking the filter. Can you test it with a roll of black-and-white film?

    For Sale 150mm f/8 Nikkor-SW - covers 8x10 and more

For sale is my 150mm Nikkor-SW with original caps and retaining ring. I've never used it since I got it, and probably never will. Its 400mm image circle at f/22 provides considerable movements on 8x10 and will cover 10x12 according to Nikon's 1982 LF lens brochure. This lens is in quite good...

Changes in Ilford Multigrade Classic Glossy

Over the last few years I've gone through at least a half dozen (probably more) 50- and 100-sheet boxes of 11x14 Ilford Multigrade Classic and Warmtone (always glossy). This note describes differences I noticed between paper from 100-sheet boxes of Multigrade Classic I purchased in May 2025 and...

    New Widelux possibly coming

And $172 shipping. It’s a little hard to imagine they’re going to turn much of a profit, if any, even if they sell out the first run. It’s out of my league but I certainly wish them the best.

When was the last time you screwed up ...

I placed some pieces of Post-It note labeled “NO!” on the wrong edge of my 4x5’s back. The notes have been there for several years and I haven’t made that mistake since. It’s best to trim off all the unglued parts of the Post-It so the edges don’t curl up with time - this will help the notes...
  10. Gauging interest: New 122 Film (HP5+)

Not owning a camera that requires 122 film I have no horse in the race, but I just wanted to remind you that both Kodak and Ilford have had troubles with transfer from the backing paper onto the film in the past. Making suitable backing paper in this size may prove to be a formidable challenge.
