I've adjusted mine. I can't remember where I saw the how to though. It was surprisingly easy I recall. Careful removal of the protecting piece and the screw was easy to turn to adjust the rangefinder. (in very small increments as I was very nervous of doing it)
Alternatively you might also be able to find people selling their old stockpiles of darkroom paper for lots cheaper than fresh new boxes. These are pretty good still for trial and error starting out I've found. Also for developing said paper you could also perhaps use caffenol (a mix of instant...
I have used very thin felt. I went to local tailor and asked and they gave me a small scrap for free. This was for a project making KMZ-FT2 canisters with a 3D printer and I needed that little hairy fiber material stop too.
Seemed to have the same problem. Was able to pry the 'lid' with my finger nail. Now I'm not sure if this tight seal has caused another problem namely that the inside screw rings are slightly wobbly and I have no battery continuity. I'm not sure how to fix this continuity problem with the loose...
