Having started in photography with a rangefinder free camera I'll be reliving my past.
Probably a (very) silly question,but if my rangefinder has been knocked out of alignment,can I just focus by guestimation,and using the distance figures marked up on the lens ?

I was once given to understand that plastic mounts were 'sacrificial'
if the lens was knocked against a hard surface. The mount broke more
easily and should in theory reduce camera body damage and repair cost

Simple non technical soul that I am I liked the tests done weekly by Amateur Photographer magazine in the U.K.
They used to shoot a series of shots of a permanently moored ship on the river Thames from their office window on the
opposite bank.
Back in the late 50s early 60s before I got into processing my own film,I used a very well known company in London called Wallace Heaton(of 'Blue Book'
fame) to process my film. The negatives always came back with a contact strip which you would then use to order up any enlargements.
