Agree ground glass essential for longer lenses.
I also like the ground glass for composition even with the wider lenses. They are really good focusing close as well. Another aid for focus is a lazer tape measure.
It is a wonderful camera for landscapes with wide angle lenses JD. Most people are using it with a digital back and its not so easy to get a film back. Its great with film. For longer lenses precise focusing really needs the ground glass screen. You cant go wrong with the Silvestri either!
Dear Hilo
Thanks so much for your help.
By describing how things should work for me i was able to cross reference. The difficulty was deciding what was normal without another enlarger for comparison.
Everything on mine moved as it should. I also cross checked the 60mm lens focal length with...
Not all Soviet era rangefinders are equal. The Kiev factory actually acquired Zeiss equipment and personel. The early cameras are very comlarable to a Contax ii and the lenses are zeiss designs. Early 1950s Kiev is super to use and doesnt get in the way. Fall off in quality with time.
Fed not...
I am sorry you have not had much joy with N and T. They are not the quickest even in the uk but i really respect their enthusiasm for all things analogue. Hope something turns up soon.
Kiev is an interesting one to mention. The early 1950s versions are very high quality and the lenses are excellent. A lot of these were made by ex Carl Zeiss staff. If you can find a good one! The shutter is quite complicated and not something i would want to rely on.
One thing to mention...
Nothing really compares to a Leica but i have a Nikon S3 which is a pleasure to use. I have at various times had Leica MP M6 M3 and also Contax iia and G1 and 2. The Contax lenses are brilliant but the auto focus is very slow by modern standards. The metering is great. A lot of the lcd displays...
Many thanks.
Yes 60 on the right. 100 on the left.
There is no cable but it is easy enough to activate the lower cam with the 60 lens by pushing a small screw driver down the track where the cable should go.
The cam moves freely as the head is moved up and down.
Its very puzzling. I wonder...
I have just rescued a badly modified iic. It had a durst mixing chamber and lpl colour head bolted on and a heavy piece of steel instead of the baseboard. 60 and 100 lenses and focusing stage look ok.
I have sourced a iic condenser head lamphouse and 35mm negative carrier. And correct wooden...
