I think I would try it in a deep tray or bucket by hand, just moving it around enough to keep it from touching adjacent layers. You only need to do it once and you probably run more chance of kinks and scratches trying to get it onto a reel.
I did a roll of 122 this way in HC110 iirc and...
I feel like people's standards for acceptable focus must vary quite a bit. I've spent quite a bit of time with various rangefinders, focus targets, and carefully measured distances and it's puzzling to me when I see people assert that it's just never an issue. Either I've had a statistically...
I'm planning on sending my F2AS to Dean's. I've already chatted with him on the phone and he sounds like a good guy. Glad to hear he did good work for you!
The turnaround time was great for me - a month or two is nothing in this world, IMO. I'm hoping he will be able to get the shutter working right on my F3 on the second try, but he didn't sound happy about having it returned.
It's funny, I almost wonder if we've had our cameras with the same person or shop, since my experience has been so different from what you describe. I've had no responses to questions, not really any communication at all, just got an email requesting payment after I sent a "hey just checking...
Oh, mine was much less expensive than that! If I'd paid $200 for it I would have thought twice before attempting it. Maybe I just got a very good deal, I don't know.
At any rate, I was able to remove the aperture ring and "mill" it down using a toy-like Dremel drill press fixture and some...
I did my Ai conversion with a dremel. It's a bit ugly but works fine. I don't think I'd do it with a rare or valuable lens but 105/2.5s are a dime a dozen.
I participate in the ULF order every year and they haven't done any sort of announcement tease about it in the past, that I can recall, though the Ortho Plus short-turnaround part is new, I guess.
Oh, it's just that the old software for it only runs under XP. I'd definitely prefer a CLI interface too and if you get something together I'd love to play with it! That would really be ideal. I don't think it's that complex an interaction with the camera but it's sure not my forte. For what...
I'm not sure I understand the question. Why try to make a data interface to a camera? Emily Cook and thinkbrown mentioned wanting to do it.
Or was the "Why?" sarcastic and I missed it?
I can help with that. You probably need an Intel Windows XP VM. It sounds like you have the electrical interface part figured out, but I used the information from here to build mine:
There's third part software which has been made free...
Thanks for the details of your experience. I also did the eBay method, so I guess I'll wait and see if I hear back. There was a PDF attached but it just said "CLA" and "$277" with no mention of the specific issues I put in the letter I sent with the camera, which I don't think would be...
Just thought I'd come here with an update. I ended up sending an F3 to ICT on April 8th and got an email back with no proposed repairs or other comment, just a dollar amount estimate, but I replied OK. Haven't heard anything since.
I was hoping to at least get to discuss the specific...
My feeling is that almost every camera that used 122 film will have a very slow shutter and be better suited to very slow films. But the good part is you can now get bulk FP4+ from the ULF sale, so maybe that would make more sense?
I converted mine with a dremel and made an f-stop marking strip with a label maker. It's not absolutely perfect looking but it works and has no issues. It was a bit of a laborious and noisy process but not the end of the world.
