Let's Talk About Spending a Lot of Money on Lab Equipment with the Aim of Retiring in 25 Years.

If you're in a spot where people can utilize the machine, I wouldn't talk you out of it. RA4 will be around for a long time. But you may need to invest in a good paper cutting system from rolls. We are in a very rural area so it would not make sense to offer a rental darkroom. I've thought...

Well if your broader point is that the business model of labs needs to adapt to stay relevant, I would argue that this has already happened. In fact it's an everything old is new again type of model. What we do is the original Eastman Kodak "You push the button, we do the rest" model...

No we don't handle any cine formats. I'm guessing I could run the new AHU films through the C41 processor but I'd be a little worried about the film drifting and getting caught up in the gearing. And we have no way to scan it.

We got a nice long term but will hopefully pay it off within 7 years or so.

Let's Talk About Spending a Lot of Money on Lab Equipment with the Aim of Retiring in 25 Years.

Update: We officially ordered the 4 track, 30cm C41 processor and the 3 track, 20cm B&W machine. Both RT. Ultimately the significant modifications to our space and future training, operational challenges of running a D&D scared me off. I understand roller transport processors, as does my...

Want to Buy Chrome Leica M7

Tell me about it. Some crazy store is asking $5000 for a silver ZI with no box. Then a supposed unused one is like $2200 but with $550 shipping. I feel like these cameras were somewhat regularly traded not that long ago in the USA?

Want to Buy Chrome Leica M7

Well I failed to find a Zeiss Ikon. How about an M7? Looking for a clean chrome model. Where o where did the M7s go?

Considering earning an MFA in Photography

I got a BA in Photography and a good portion of my class went on to pursue an MFA. Most of them no longer work in the field. I am skeptical of Photo MFAs. The fact is, 'Photography' as an art form is in a changing place. We don't yet know if it's going to continue as an ongoing medium or...

My 2nd hand Zeiss 50/2 Planar ZM brings up the 28mm frame lines on my M4P

I was also quite a big fan of the current 50/1.5 II Nokton. It's very sharp, plus has some character, and is tiny. I feel like it doesn't get it's due appreciation.

My 2nd hand Zeiss 50/2 Planar ZM brings up the 28mm frame lines on my M4P

Well damn. Ok instead of MacGuyver'ing my way out of this I requested a return. Maybe I'll zag and try something exotic like the 50/1 from CV...or the 50/2 APO.

My 2nd hand Zeiss 50/2 Planar ZM brings up the 28mm frame lines on my M4P

I have a 50/75 LTM adapter and I held it up to the flange, it's pretty hard to see a difference. The one on the 50/2 may be very slightly longer but no more than 1mm. The 50/75 adapter brings up the correct 50mm lines. KEH said I can either return it for a refund or keep it, I asked them to...

    New Ilford Large Format Film?

I'm not super sure either but the actual ISO of Pan-F in most people's usage is around 32. If you have a 135/3.5 Planar or 150/2.8, you quickly discover that the Copal 1 shutter is a bit limiting in many lighting situations. At least you can get down pretty low without needing to ND I suppose...

Is upgrading to a faster Rolleiflex a good decision? Or keep it the way it is?

If you want to shoot portraits the 2.8s are IMHO much better. 80mm is barely long enough for a flattering portrait especially as you get close. The subject separation at moderate to close distances is very nice with an 80/2.8. The 75 is great for when you simply want sharp pictures and a...
