    GAS Sanity Check

This one is definitely pretty enough to be a decoration if I decide not to use it. But use it I shall. : True, though I might have walked away had the seller not come off his price. I generally have pretty good self-control over these things and the mental load of adding another camera in a...

    GAS Sanity Check

I have no plans to do so. It's kind of awkward to get to anyway. Chris

    GAS Sanity Check

I have the camera in hand and it's as nice as it looked in the pictures. Even the bellows are supple and clean. This does not look like a 70yo camera in the slightest. As for the shutter, speeds 1/10th and slower are sticky, but light pressure on the cocking lever encourages the shutter to...

    GAS Sanity Check

Nice shots. We have a lot of old cemeteries around here dating back to the 1700s. Between family farms being displaced by the Civil War or being turned into subdivisions, they're all over in unexpected places. They make for good photographic fodder. Chris

    That is the plan. Chris

    GAS Sanity Check

I'm meeting with the guy tomorrow. Due to the sticky slow speeds, he has agreed to $65. Chris

    GAS Sanity Check

At more than 10x the price. I'm sure the Fuji is a nice camera, but I can't justify that expenditure. Chris

    GAS Sanity Check

Unfortunately for me, SWMBO is often an enabler. Yeah, it's certainly nice. I am a bit concerned about the scale focus aspect, but considering how I plan to use it, it shouldn't be a big issue. Most of my shots will be at or near infinity with the aperture stopped down a bit. I forgot to...

    GAS Sanity Check

I need a sanity check before I let my GAS open my wallet. I try not to be an equipment hoarder and only buy what I will use. I've stumbled upon a local seller offering a nice Zeiss Ikon Ikonta 521/2 6x9 camera with the 105/4.5 Novar lens and Prontor shutter. Judging by the pictures, this...

Just sharing my favorite pair of SLRs

Nice pair. I have a similar pairing, except mine is the "New" F-1 and an FTQL (the FTb's older brother). Some days I like the FTQL better than the F-1 despite the F-1 being the objectively better camera. I'm only in my 50s but I've started moderating my GAS for this reason. I have several...

    BBC feature on film resurgence

Even before smartphones became ubiquitous, but after digital cameras had taken over, our local club was trending older and less relevant. I attended a couple meetings 20 years ago, but it just wasn't interesting and seemed not terribly interested in photography. They also had a weird meeting...

Where is everyone with your camera scanning setup for film?

Copy stand prices are crazy for what is a simple device. I have a welder and scrap steel, I built my own copy stand specifically around my Olympus E-M10 and a 7Artisans macro lens. If I ever change cameras or lenses, I'll have to get a new stand. In the current set up, it works great. Chris

Camera Heritage Museum in Staunton, VA.

Neat. I'm only a couple hours away, I should check it out some time. I'm going camping not far from Staunton next weekend, I wonder if I can get my buddies to take a side trip. :D Chris

Help me find my dream cam - compact rangefinder with slow speeds & self timer

Canon makes a collapsible 50/1.9. There's a guy locally selling a Canon IVSB with that lens for $155, but it lacks the self-timer you need. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/1446929053775965/ Chris

Help me find my dream cam - compact rangefinder with slow speeds & self timer

A bunch of the Canon LTM rangefinders fit your requirements. Some of them can be had for very little, especially in non-photography-oriented swapmeet venues such as FB Marketplace. Most of them are about the size of a Leica III, the larger ones are closer to the M series, but there are a lot...
