The first thing I did with my Mamiya was to remove the winder and use a hand crank.
The second was to replace the metered finder with a waist level one.
That said the AE mode is very accurate.
The camera is great until you wish to use it in portrait position.

When using my Nikon FE in difficult lighting , I meter from something that is close to 18% grey.
The results can be taken care of with either film development or the use of split grade printing.
