Thanks Matt. That's a good idea, I will send him a link. Yeah, I've got a V35 with very stiff focus helicoids and am terrified to take it apart. I would be very interested to see a write up on that enlarger.
So mine are also about a half click off zero when they are zeroed. You can release the dials without taking too much apart by taking off the front cover and then releasing this screw a bit. It's a bit fiddly, but but will give you a bit of play on the dial positions. There are also grub screws...
Hi Dwayne :) I somehow missed this message from you but that is a very kind offer! I would certainly like to take you up it as the front cover is missing on my second one, making it unusable. I'll send you a DM to chat further. Thanks again.
The Naked Photographer on Youtube has a few videos on aligning the bigger omegas, might give you some tips: https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=aligning+the+omega
On my D5, I can adjust the orientation of the surface the negative carrier sits on and make small adjustments to the...
I actually logged on to ask a very similar question about my Omega D5, although when printing 35mm negs I get falloff along one or two edges (and not on every print) and not in the corners like you. I thought it might be alignment though grain seems to be equally sharp across the image so...
Thanks a lot for the response Matt. I actually also mailed KBH to ask about their parts and got this response from Kevin which adds some extra info:
Hello Matthew,
The Omega #423-327 negative carrier uses different glass for the top and bottom, they mount differently and are not the same size...
Apologies, this is a total thread hijack. I also have a D5Xl with a Chromega head. Mine came with several negative carriers including a 4x5 Spring Hinged, Rapid Shift Glass carrier as per the pic below. Unfortunately it came without glass. KHB sells an Anti Newton top glass replacement, but does...
Hi all. I'm wondering if it's possible to access the helicoid on this enlarger without breaking it. The V35 I have doesn't have the original lens, so I've put an El-Nikkor 50mm on but the focus ring, though it turns, is very stiff and I can also feel that there is some dirt in the mechanism. Has...
And finally, here is an album with all the pics and videos I took while I was doing this for reference for anyone else who is thinking of doing this! Thanks for following the thread and hope it has helped or will help someone else to restore and maintain their Chromega enlarger.
Album of...
The enlarger is now back together and seems to be working properly! I can't wait to use it though I will probably need to do a similar process with the chassis which is pretty grimey, but I think I can test the setup out in the meantime :) My next mission will be to design a wall mounting...
Ah, one thing I forgot to add earlier is that there is a short strip of 10mm thick light sealing foam on the filter assembly that has deteriorated in the manner of camera mirror bumper foam. I popped down to my local hardware store and found self adhesive foam strip that I replaced this section...
