    Artifacting problems with Silverfast

I wasn't sure if this was due to using ICE on true b&w film as it doesn't work with it as it causes horrendous artifacting. But this doesn't look like the kind I get when I enable ICE on those types of films. Looking through some of my own scans on the 9000, I can say that I've not encountered...

Using AI during Scanning and Subsequent Editing

A colleague of mine had an Adobe AI subscription so I asked him to run my image through cleanup and this how it came out. Kodak 160VC-036 Adobe AI vs Coolscan ICE by Les DMess, on Flickr It took her facial jewelry out and still didn't clean the dust and scratches. I believe this has been a...

Using AI during Scanning and Subsequent Editing

A colleague was just showing me his latest results from ChatGPT so I thought I would try removing dust and scratches compared to my Coolscan. Kodak 160VC-06-36 9K ICE vs ChatGPT by Les DMess, on Flickr With a ChatGPT subscription, the processing time takes about less than a minute compared to...

    Scanning 35mm with the CoolScan 8000 / 9000

I also use the FH-835S which takes 2 strips of 6 frames. I have also scanned many strips of 110 using that glass holder successfully. Prior to acquiring the 9000, I use to scan 110 strips on the Coolscan 5000 using the FH3 110-3 by Les DMess, on Flickr Tedious but very quick with the 5000.

Scan medium format with full frame pixel shift or scanner

My color negative conversion workflow is not close to the Coolscan+Nikonscan results in terms of speed and quality and the ICE is pretty amazing. Maybe a version of AI will be able to address these issues for me but apparently not today anyway. Kodak 160VC-036 Adobe AI vs Coolscan ICE by Les...

Scan medium format with full frame pixel shift or scanner

187MP would indeed be great. The only one I found states actually detail achieved is between 90 - 120MP which is still very good. After adjusting for the MF ratio, it would still be less than the Coolscan. S1R pixel shifting - www.photomacrography.net https://share.google/EWS2wxYmTOWQENazV

Scan medium format with full frame pixel shift or scanner

That would really be something! I looked at DPREVIEW and a couple others but haven't found test results showing this?

Scan medium format with full frame pixel shift or scanner

Also, been trying to rent a Nikon D850 (45MP 8256 x 5504) not only to see how much of an improvement in resolution that would be but I also wanted to see the results of its built-in color negative conversion.

Scan medium format with full frame pixel shift or scanner

Note that I originally conducted this test to see just how good an SMC Pentax-M 50mm F4 macro lens that I bought used for so cheap. I found out then it will not keep me from attaining detail on the film. I shot a test target using 35mm Kodak Techpan @ ISO25 developed in Kodak Tehnidol and...

Thinking about buying a Nikon FA

The FA is a fine camera and mine continues to be a productive shooter as I have had no issues with it. I agree with Ken's assessment that the metering is very competent and reliable. Sharp on the light table but blurry on the scan?

The image you posted looks to be very small for a 3200dpi scan making it impossible to assess critical focus. Since there appears to be areas that are in focus, it is still hard to tell. Your aperture at F2 may not have been sufficient to make sure more of the target to be in focus. BTW, when...
