I wasn't sure if this was due to using ICE on true b&w film as it doesn't work with it as it causes horrendous artifacting. But this doesn't look like the kind I get when I enable ICE on those types of films. Looking through some of my own scans on the 9000, I can say that I've not encountered...

A colleague of mine had an Adobe AI subscription so I asked him to run my image through cleanup and this how it came out.

It took her facial jewelry out and still didn't clean the dust and scratches.

A colleague was just showing me his latest results from ChatGPT so I thought I would try removing dust and scratches compared to my Coolscan.

I also use the FH-835S which takes 2 strips of 6 frames. I have also scanned many strips of 110 using that glass holder successfully.
Prior to acquiring the 9000, I use to scan 110 strips on the Coolscan 5000 using the FH3

Tedious but very quick with the 5000.
My color negative conversion workflow is not close to the Coolscan+Nikonscan results in terms of speed and quality and the ICE is pretty amazing. Maybe a version of AI will be able to address these issues for me but apparently not today anyway.

187MP would indeed be great. The only one I found states actually detail achieved is between 90 - 120MP which is still very good. After adjusting for the MF ratio, it would still be less than the Coolscan.

Also, been trying to rent a Nikon D850 (45MP 8256 x 5504) not only to see how much of an improvement in resolution that would be but I also wanted to see the results of its built-in color negative conversion.
Note that I originally conducted this test to see just how good an SMC Pentax-M 50mm F4 macro lens that I bought used for so cheap. I found out then it will not keep me from attaining detail on the film.
I shot a test target using 35mm Kodak Techpan @ ISO25 developed in Kodak Tehnidol and...
The FA is a fine camera and mine continues to be a productive shooter as I have had no issues with it. I agree with Ken's assessment that the metering is very competent and reliable.

The image you posted looks to be very small for a 3200dpi scan making it impossible to assess critical focus. Since there appears to be areas that are in focus, it is still hard to tell.
Your aperture at F2 may not have been sufficient to make sure more of the target to be in focus.
BTW, when...
