I'm a little confused as to why you'd want this. Seems like more work when your film should be flat in the holder anyways, but I'm sure I'm just a dummy.
I appreciate that! Houston was just the location. I'm still trying to come up with a good proper title for that. I think that will be my first huge print, and it's probably the favorite thing I've shot on 4x5 so far. Definitely the one I've had the most fun with.
Glad you enjoyed that one! Truth be told, it's the only one that I really have regrets about. I shot that from a few different angles, and one was much much much more dramatic and striking. Unfortunately when I went to stitch them together, the top of one of the rocks was cut off and it...
I noticed the litho film, and I may buy a pack of that for experimenting. I definitely will try x-ray film again. Maybe with some latex gloves this time, though.
If they're the same, that's good news. I guess I'll pick up a hundred sheets or so of either one.
I will say that I do love the chemistry aspect of old time photography. If I can save a dime with it, I'd definitely be willing to go through everything in the darkroom. Plus, even though someone...
I may just see about buying a 50 pack of Foma 100 and EDU Ultra 100 and see which ones I like best from there. Accepting that 4x5 is just plain expensive may just be the hard, right choice.
Shouldn't it be cheaper over time? I wouldn't think it's more expensive to make your own emulsion, and I could re-use the plates. Granted I guess I could buy clear acetate sheets and make film to forego the cost of glass.
It's mostly the cost of it all. Film gets expensive and I like the idea of being able to shoot for nickels and dimes, especially if I make my own emulsion from scratch.
Working on it. I made some caffenol to test if my film was fogged after someone walked into the darkroom and turned on the lights. I was cutting film and unfortunately I wasn't able to close the dark bag completely before that happened and everything got fogged. Once I get some good film to...
Reckon an orange/ yellow filter paired with a polarizer would give good results? A polarizer has been doing me alright with Mummy 400, at least getting me a light grey as opposed to blowout.
I've been playing around with this in my head a little bit. I'd love to use X-ray film for landscapes since it's cheap, and very fine grained. I didn't know if I could take a red 29 filter and run that over my lens, and if that would just result in a very very very long exposure time and still...
I wanted to thank y'all again for the cards. These have been excellent. I'm not a newbie to this, exactly, but I aspire to be able to make compositions like many of the members here. I'd especially like to complement
@koraks whose card I received today. My little area of Mississippi is home to...
My goodness! I finally got it done. Sorry for taking so long, seems like every time I tried to sit down and get these prints made, something would happen. Went out West to get new pictures, took about two weeks, then got a new puppy named Oliver. He's our current dogs third cousin, actually...
Hey, gang. I'm thinking about getting into plate photography. I don't particularly care for a wet plate process, because I don't want to carry around a darkroom, pay for a portable, darkroom, or deal with cleaning the chemicals out of my camera. Should I look into tintype, dry plate, anything...
