I was wrong. My light panel does not emit IR, so the film curve is nonsense. I did another roll using Rodinal 1+25, 7 minutes, developed in a Simma roller, and I left room for one IR subject @ ISO 25, 12, and 6. ISO 25 hits the spot for me.
To characterize film speed, I assume an ISO, and I use a light panel to shoot frames from 5 stops underexposure to 6 stops overexposure. I define film speed as "4 stops underexposure should give a density of 0.1". I normally do this with an A16 back to cover the whole range, but I accidentally...
Got my rolls a few days ago. I used a light panel to measure the characteristic curve of a test roll, and for Rodinal 1+50, 10 minutes, rotary dev at 20 C, I get no more than ISO50. I accidentally loaded the roll into my A12 back rather than the A16 back, so I did not get the full curve, but I...
I have the other two, looking to complete the set. Cosmetic imperfections are fine as long as they do not impact operation, but a 10/10 copy is of course perfectly fine as well.

The Precision II does not impress as much as the Imacon 949.
Edit: But upon further reading, the specs are not that far off (while the cost is more in line with the relative performance to the V850), and I have nothing to lose by adding...
The difference is certainly there. I am just of the opinion that it is not worth the effort (cost, size, having to use a separate computer) for me.
But yeah, I thought that was going to be the outcome of this. Nevertheless, I am too curious to not do the comparison to the X5. Once that is done...
Time for people to give me crap for sharing postage stamp sized images.
Here are three frames, at least 100% crops, though likely 200%. And shame on me for not keeping notes on how much (if any) sharpening was done. I'll do a better job with the comparison to the X5.
Understood. My starting point is to see what an expert X5 operator can do, so I can then determine if the effort required to reach that level is worth it to me. While I would not call myself an expert V850 user, I have had it for over 4 years now, so I am more than comfortable with it.
I did...
It measures the density of your film. One application is to measure the characteristic curve of a film for your specific developing recipe. This will give you the film speed and contrast, and these are especially important if you are doing analog prints so you can match the curve of your...
Thank you for all the input, but I want to compare my V850 scan to an X5 scan of the same negative. I guess I'll send the negative out to the nearest X5 scanner and post results when I have them.
Howdy folks,
I may be in the market for an X5 Flextight, and to help me make up my mind I wanted to see how the scans from it compare to my scans from the lowly and convenient V850. If I wanted to get an idea of the ultimate scan quality, is there one lab (or an independent person) whose X5...
