And here we have… the blades, disassembled, numbered by the disassembly order, a little bit dirty. I'm posting it as I wasn't able to find any pics of them disassembled anywhere online.
Updates on the lubricant side: Nye/Fuchs told me the closest replacement they made for Nye Astro is Nye 227...
Allright, so here are some updates:
- I found 12.4.96 behind my time selector dial (see first pic) - could this be the production date?
- cleaned surfaces with IPA and very lightly greased with the tip of a small syringe - everything is smoother now
- I've disassembled all the shutter leafs...
This is truly helpful, especially for who is starting with the subject. Thank you so much for that, I hope that I'll be able to contribute in the future!
I’m in my 30s and I find repairing / CLA’ing LF cameras relaxing and a great intellectual activity, as to me it’s a mix of micromechanic, metrology, optics and chemistry (sonicator fluids, grease/oil/paint). I’m with you that finding material and courses it’s hard sometimes (I’ve hunted Sinar...
I got a reply from Nye and they told me the closest match will be Nye 227 that is a very light oil (comparable to the Moebius 9040 in viscosity at 20c). I started the endeavor of a full shutter CLA just to keep it running for another 30-40 years, if there is anybody interested I can post here my...
I was thinking about the pins that hold in place some of the piece of the P series like the back of the lever, let me attach a picture for clarity.
Gorgeous Norma setup, congrats!
Thanks for this information Brian! Why od you think the D4/D5 could be a better fit than the 9104? Do you have any information about the grease, also? As stated, I already have some of the specific Sinar greases - the aforementioned Losoid 72515 and 72510.
@Nokton48 could I ask you with what tools you punched out and in again the pins? I'm trying to do that with P2 parts but I'm afraid I will 1. bend the pins, no replacement available, I'm screwed 2. not being able to punch them in again. Sorry for necroposting :D
Nye/Fuchs has not yet replied but from my understanding the Moebius 9104 could be a great candidate to replace the Nye Astro, as it's made with the right viscosity for clock pinions (bigger/higher loads than watches). Does anybody have some tech information about the Nye Astro?
Thanks everyone for your inputs!
I wrote directly to Nye/Fuchs asking for a replacement oil and/or the technical spec of the old Nye Astro.
I was thinking about using a generic clock oil but I want to do this CLA properly… I have three Sinar shutters I think the effort in getting everything...
Hey folks! I have a Sinar/Copal shutter that hasn’t been service in a while, so I was thinking about doing the CLA myself. I got the Sinar maintenance manual that mention the lubricants to use, for the slow governor it should be the “Nyes Astro Batch 10939” or Mil-L-3918… I wasn’t able to find...
Hey folks! I got a Femocon 151 (the lower one, closer to the neg carrier) with a single, visible scratch in the center.
I'm wondering if this can affect prints in a significant way as it's before the negative and the lens… see the attached pic.
I know I need to try that with a test print, but...
