Interesting reflections. And the images illustrate your points well.
Do you think the copy images could be improved so that silvering and defects don't show as much? Different lighting?
I've been struck by how evenly skies and other uniform areas develop with PC512. And there are no weird halos around edges.
For me the first image is far more pleasing than the second (tonality and evenness).
Which is sharper? I guess it's not that important to me.
If the film is color negative (looks like it), I would suggest the problem is in camera and not from scanning since the reflection gives lower density.

Do you invert the tank during the first minute?
Only using the twiddle stick never gave me clean negs with a Paterson tank. I would first use the stick for a few seconds, then attach the lid and invert for the rest of the first minute, and then whack the tank against the table several times...
How strange. Isn't the position of the Al tab the only communication between lens and camera? I'm trying to understand how just the one lens is causing problems.
Hope you solve the problem.

I could add that I've had problems with a jumping meter needle on other Nikon cameras. Then the...
You have already gotten some good advice.
Regarding your first question; I don't think the humidity is a problem in your dimroom. 45-65% should be just fine.
It looks like the paper isn't absorbing the sensitizer well enough or evenly enough.
I would start by brushing the paper with distilled...
Yes, avoid foam in the developer.
Any PF in the pre-rinse would just be to lower the surface tension a bit so air bubbles won't stick to the film very well.
I've used 3 drops 10% PF (diluted) per liter water, It's almost an homeopathic dose.
Looks nice!
Sounds like my experience with Pt - great tonality and separation in shadows and highlights, but maybe less Dmax and contrast than with gold. And the color can be very neutral if there is enough humidity during exposure.
