Given the location of the OP, a couple of lesser-known UK color processes to add to the mix.
First, Finlay Colour, from the late 1920s and early 30s, which placed an RGB filter over a B+W plate. Interestingly, this scheme well-predates but remarkably resembles the filter developed by Bruce...
Silver prices started rising in the latter half of 2025 and then skyrocketed in January to $100/oz. Prices have eased a bit this past week, but still up about 4x over the 2020-2024 average and double Q4/25. I think things are going to be ugly for a while, similar to what we experienced in 1980...
Kodak had to exit the instant market due to Polaroid patent infringement issues. As I recall, it was a quite bloody court fight. Where Kodak could get back into the instant market would be the manufacture of Polaroid film packs, as they did for Polaroid in the mid-late 1960s. I agree that Fuji...
I've lost track of most of the mo-pix labs in the South, but Colorlab in DC still offers B+W 35mm processing in D96. (I used them a decade ago to scan and transfer my grandfather's 9.5mm Pathe home movies, as they were the only lab in the US to offer that service. Very happy with the service...
The Bolex 155 Macrozoom was one of the more capable Super8 cameras in its heyday. The lens (f1.8, 8.5 to 30 mm) is a manual zoom but quite spectacular in performance with macro capability. In addition to normal motion capture, the camera is also capable of single-frame exposure for animation...
Brian - those wire connectors seem to be a repair choice of convenience. A bit of heat shrink tubing and a spot of solder to connect the leads would have taken some time and care, but ultimately a better solution. Here's my SBC for reference. I don't use it very often now but it still does...
I've been very happy with my LunaPro SBC. Not particularly compact, but very accurate, easy to use (null meter method), and runs on a common 9v battery. Pricing seems to have stabilized around $75 for "EX" rated meters, interestingly exactly what I paid for mine a decade ago.
I used a Bolex 155 in the early/mid 70s and shot a fair amount of both Plus-X and Tri-X reversal. Of the two, I preferred Tri-X, which gave gorgeous results. Re sources for film and equipment, Chambless Cine is also a good resource: http://www.chamblesscineequip.com/Default.htm
Thanks, Vivizen, this is great information. I have the same "three finger" focus issue with my 100/3.5 CF. I had often wondered if it was part of the design spec, to minimize focus drift, due to vibration, in aerial photography applications.
Cameraquest (Los Angeles area) does F2 body and meter prism CLAs as well.
Nikon F or F2 CLA A CLA is and adjustment and cleaning -- and does not include repairs of broken or worn out parts. Due to wear accurate adjustments of shutter speeds or rangefinders is not always possible. Likewise...
I've had that issue with my 35 SE three times now. The slow speeds, 1/15 to B, are managed by a separate escapement, and it tends to get gummed up if the camera isn't used regularly. Speeds of 1/30 and above are unaffected. I had the camera CLA'd by Harry Fleenor (https://www.rolleirepairs.com/)...
In the US, good-condition used Gossen Luna Pro SBC (aka Profisix in some markets) and Sekonic L-398 meters sell in the $75 (GBP 60) range. The Gossen uses standard 9V batteries; the Sekonic doesn't require a battery but is less suited to low light applications. I own both, purchased used, and...
