B/W film in summer for urban documentary project, and come kit critique please

When I sold my 203, it left a big hole in my heart--so I replaced it immediately with a much less expensive 501CM. Not as versatile, but it works. Maybe another 203 in the future, but my new 907X is keeping me busy--and all my glass works (with adapters). Hoping for the return of you 553 must be...

Any former processing lab people out there?

My wife and I owned and ran Horizon Photographic Laboratory in Hayward. We closed the lab in 1980. Earlier in this thread you can find a posting about some of the lab details. At 80, I'm still shooting. At home I have (my wife passed in 2009, or it would have been "we") two Canon large-format...

    I need a different 8x10 camera.

I believe he WAS at least one of the builders for Fred Picker, and Mr. Ritter is a gentleman and a fine craftsman. Contacting him will gain you some helpful information, and possibly a new 8x10.

    ND Set-Up For Hasselblads

I use the NISI system with success. Similar to Cokin, and the adapter rings are available in a huge variety of sizes. For B60, the adapter rings work well, and for my 40 FLE there is a special adapter ring made by another firm that works perfectly. Suggest you look at Ken Rockwell's review of...

    I need a different 8x10 camera.

Mr. Richard T. Ritter, the actual builder of many of the Zone VI cameras, is still active. He built a gorgeous Graflok back for my Zone VI 4x5, and he DOES make a relatively-light 8x10. He could likely refurbish your Zone VI 8x10 since he probably built it! 😁

    I need a different 8x10 camera.

Have you consulted Omer, the owner of CatLabs? He is a genius (really), sells only film gear, and is one of the best small-business owners I've had the privilege of knowing.

Jobodrum and final rinsing. Looks like I need a tray too..

Historical note: I've processed 30x40 prints AND transparency film in a drum. Kodak made an enormous drum that was loaded into an equally-huge rotation device. Ours was so large, we called her "Brunhilde" (from an opera with a large soprano--absolutely no intended demeanment to anyone with that...

Jobodrum and final rinsing. Looks like I need a tray too..

Yes, the JOBO wash device is for film. However, my intent--which I failed to explain--was to wash the emulsion side of the print first, then remove the print and carefully reinsert the print emulsion side out (instead of in). I was attempting to help you solve your issue of not wanting a tray.

Which Medium Format Camera Meets My Needs?

Great and wonderfully-detailed replies. Shows we're in the right place at PhoTrio. If you decide to shoot for art directors, high-end clients, and folks who will pay you for your university-gained education and experience, I strongly recommend Hasselblad. Clients have no doubt that you are...

Jobodrum and final rinsing. Looks like I need a tray too..

I use this amazing device from CatLabs (Omer is a true JOBO genius) with my JOBO drums. Works extremely well, and no tray is needed. Just follow the directions to set water flow rate for best rinsing performance. Jobo Universal Forced Turbulence Cascade Film Washer (#3350) $44.90

Want to Buy FR tank film guide

I will post an image of my film guide when I get back home in January. If it's what you want, just make an offer. I have no idea what a fair price would be, and now that I have moved back to MF, I would much rather have you using it.

Want to Buy FR tank film guide

I have a guide, but won't be back home from a shoot until January. Is it an immediate need?

    Hasselblad: film AND digital?

You are correct. The CFV (I made an error calling it a CVF in an earlier post--my bad) does not rotate. However, I shoot almost everything on a tripod, and the RRS BH-55 makes the tilting operation virtually painless. JOBO is definitely my favorite for small-volume processing, and their CPP3 is...

    Hasselblad: film AND digital?

Totally amazing! And I thought I had a large kit. You win by a long shot! I only had one (not two, yikes) 8x10 and one 4x5--both Zone VI brothers. Beautiful and creative images achieved with the right equipment at the right time. Impressive.

    Hasselblad: film AND digital?

Those images are spectacularly-sharp and crisp! Wow! Your setup reminds me of the Leaf-Aptus 12R (rotating back, 80MP) that I should NEVER have sold. Had to connect the lens to the back, and had to carry an external battery pack which would be suspended from the tripod to stabilize and hold down...
