I think they use a different material than the standard intrinsic polarisers in a normal LCD screen - and this different material results in lowered absorption of UV. So, ultimately, your instincts are correct.
My hope is that the 256 levels of grey that the screen can display (block) will be...
Hi All
The supplier I was talking to recently updated their 16K screen from 3 bits per pixel to 8 bits per pixel.
Naturally - I got excited and bought one.
I tried running it on an SBC based on the rockchip - a Radxa Rock 5C (similar to the Pi 5) - but ran into a hardware limit because of...
Yes exactly.
I think many of us are using UV LEDs these days - and they're of varying build quality with output is not exactly consistent due to poor cooling design.
So unless you're careful - two exposures of the same time may yield different results.
One thing we do not need as alt printers...
Hi All :)
I'm looking to buy one of these LCD screens - I've looked at the SUMAOPAI screens and those from Shenzhen Aptus - They're mostly the same specs between them.
As discussed - the screens with resolution below 12K are 8bit, and the really big ones are 3bit - I understand that we can...
Ah - Apologies. I didn't mean to flout the rules.
@Bob Carnie - I'll contact you privately.
@koraks - If I do end up making these - where would be the most appropriate place to let people know?
Thanks all
B
Hi Bob,
I have designed one for use in my darkroom and will be offering them for sale.
It uses an AS7331 and a temp/humidity sensor on a custom board.
It will be battery/usb powered and will be able to control an off the shelf wifi switch to manage exposures.
The sensor is on its own at one...
Hi All,
I'm doing my usual masochist thing - so I'm building a custom UV optimised enlarger for utterly gargantuan alternative process prints.
To that end - I require a Rodagon G 150mm.
I understand this is a bit of an 'Anyone got a spare unicorn?' sort of question - but hey - you don't ask you...
Hi Kees,
Are you referring to caseïn/DAS prints as in an alternative to Gum/Dichromate prints here?
I'm yet to start mine, but before I do I'm also keen to hear of everyone else's experiences.
I'm hoping my negatives will look ok with the longer tonal range (some are 1100mm tall and are very...
Hi,
Just a thought - I have more problems with emulsion detaching and marring when I use too much pigment. Maybe wind that back a little. Don't be to worried about getting too 'thin' a layer - you can easily add a K layer to bring in extra density and contrast.
I also solved these problems...
Wet mounting for gum
Hi there,
For gum printing I'm wet mounting to alupanel for good rego. I soak the paper for 2 hours then hang it up to remove excess water. Once drips slow down I spray the back with slightly diluted gum Arabic using a garden sprayer. I then lay it on the panel and run a...
Hi All,
In the same vein of my emulsion coating stories, I thought I'd talk a bit about my mounting experiences to help beginners and invite some constructive input from the old hands.
I have always had trouble with registration on my gum prints as the paper - even when pre-shrunk - will...
Wet Mounting for gum printing
I'm having a small amount of luck wet mounting my paper to alu-panel (composite board made from two aluminium sheets sandwiching some kind of plastic)
I mount them to help with registration.
I soak the paper, let it drip a while, spray the back with gum...
FWIW
I'm getting a show ready - 12 big prints. 4 Layers + each.
I have room to develop 4 at a time.
I'm working 4 days - so I have Fridays and the weekend to print.
Preparing the paper (pre-shrinking and mounting to a board - Fabriano Artistico EW) 1/2 a day. Dries overnight.
Next day - 2...
Hi Keesbran,
Thanks for that article :) Very informative!
I'll have a go at some of those processes at some stage and post my results :)
One thing that was very useful in that pdf is the method he uses for affixing the paper to a substrate. (Gelatin on the paper, then glued down - releases in...
Hi Lyn,
Come and visit some time. Im in the studio on Fridays and over the weekends.
My show is in February at William Wright Artist Projects in Darlinghurst. I haven't got the date of the opening yet but will be around the 14th I think.
