Good point. I'm working on a batch of Nikkormats that would fit the bill quite well too. Pentax KX, MX, Spotmatics and many others would also work, not to mention Canon FTbs, FTs and such.
Hi Bruce,
I may be able to help. I like to restore cameras and currently have an AE-1 Program and possibly an A-1 that are not needed by me. Both have been film tested but I don't know if I have spare lenses. A month ago, our local camera shop had a bin full of Canon 50mm f1.8 lenses for...
I picked up a pair of bodies yesterday for $5 US each. The first is a pristine Spotmatic SP that does not look like it's ever been used. Unfortunately, the shutter has an issue where the closing curtain jams at an angle. The other is a nice Nikkormat FTN. That one needs light seals and I am...
I don't know the difference between the Nikkor 70-210 f4.0 and the D version, but the shot below was taken through a non-D 70-210 AF f4.0 mounted on an N75. I paid less than $10 for that lens and I've come to love it.
I've had several FX-3s and have always found them to be reliable. My FX-3 Super tends to be the one I toss into the range bag when heading out with buddies
Time will tell with the Nikon. At worst, I will find it mediocre and after a couple of rolls of film for fun, I'll hand it off to a family member to play with. At best, I'll find it very nice and will probably hand it off to a family member to play with. Some of my favorite cameras have come...
I've had a flurry of old cameras join the collection since I last wrote here. I think that I talked about the Pentax Spotty's that came home with me, but the new kids in the cabinet are the Nikons. First was an N2000 picked up for $5 from the inop bin at the local shop. It was just a broken...
This afternoon, I picked up a Nikon N80 along with a 28-70 f3.5-4.5 Nikkor and a 70-210 f4.0-5.6 Nikkor for $30. I've run a roll of film through it and after processing, the package seems to be completely functional. The glass is clear and works well. That's less than I'd have spent on lunch...
I appreciate both light and heavy cameras at different times. When in the city, I'm happy with a Pentax MX. It's small, mid-weight and shoots remarkably well. At other times, I'll have either a Pentax K1, Z-1, Canon F-1 or some other heavy camera.
For retention, I have a few cameras with...
I fixed my sister's N2000 for her last spring and put a roll through it when done. I was pleasantly pleased by the N2000. It was a nice camera to shoot and performed quite nicely.
I've done similar before. That's how a collection starts. With me, it was Canon A-1s first, then FTbs and Yashica FX-3s last. I've managed to give the spare FX-3s away as they were nice, working cameras that just needed TLC and leatherette.
Last month, I picked up a Pentax K-1 II along with a Pentax D-FA* 50mm f1.4 lens. It's the first new DSLR that I've bought for myself since about 2008-ish, when I bought a Canon 40D. So far, I'm impressed with the capabilities of this new combo.
I'm sorry for your loss. I have my father's AE-1 that he bought back in the late 70's. Many of my photos of him from that time show him carrying that camera. Shooting it does bring him back for a bit in my mind.
