Sort of torn on this. Personally I'd lighten the horizon a slight bit and the remainder of the road as well. But it's a great location with lots of possibilities.
I think it's a nice design, but miss the impact of deep black to really anchor the image. Agree with blansky above that the horizon needs some attention, as to me that's where the road leads. Maybe it's just the scan, though. So hard to tell without seeing the actual print.
I really like the composition, this works very well for me. I could also see a bit more thought on the overall exposure / brightness. The small tree is lost in the darkness that looks like a very neat aspect to this scene. Again, very neat comp IMO.
I particularly like the absence of blacks and maybe whites as well; not quite gloom but more ambiguous and malleable. The road speaks to me of "going on" and continuation, individual persistence along the ribbon of life through time with "hope" as the highlight on the horizon. And more but, suffice to say I like it.
