Zabriskie Point I

4x10 silver contact print.

In an effort to make my prints more accesible and to raise money for new equipment I am launching the Special Edition Print program. Several times each year a new contact print will be made available for the reduced price of $50. Two will be available during the holiday season. This is the first of two that are currently available. Please visit my website for more information or to order a print.

While some money will go to materials, primarily sales will go toward the purchase of a new view camera. On this trip alone I lost at least 15 photographs to various technical problems with the camera such as light leaks. The ability to photograph without worry of such would be a major dose of freedom to my work and I hope to fund it primarily with print sales.

I'm sure as hell glad you printed this-- it's really good! I hope you sell a lot

Thank you, Richard! That's something I should have mentioned actually. I had set this negative aside in part because I thought it might be to closely related to what some others have done at this famous spot.

A recent post by Richard containted the following little pearl of wisdom: "One thing may look similar to another's, but if you approach the subject openly and truthfully, the resulting pictures will always be completely yours." I don't think I could have possibly approached this place more openly or truthfully. I was in awe of the landscape around me and responded. I can say with certainty that other photographs made here where the farthest thing from my mind while I worked the area and I'm proud of the photographs I made. Not to show them would be silly. Thanks again, Richard. Best. Shawn

Nice one Shawn...curious, 4x10 or 8x10 with splitter or split darkslide? Good luck with the sales...this should get things started off right.

Thanks so much Mike! When I go out shooting I take along an 8x10 back, a 4x5 back and a half darkslide which I cut down. I just stick the half slide in the camera back when I compose a 4x10 and then use it in the holder when I make an exposure. This set up has worked well for me and offers 3 different options with every lens. Thanks again. Best. Shawn

Shawn this is really a beautiful image. It looks like you are really starting to take your work serious. Very well done!

Thank you, Kevin. I appreciate it. I've been serious about my work for awhile now. I thought it was time to start getting it out there in print form as opposed to posting scans on APUG. Thanks again. Shawn
