A portrait I took of my former professor. He did the calligraphy in the background used as a backdrop. A kind man full of passion and enthusiasm for art.
BRILLIANT!!! What an amazing photograph! All eyes go to the focus on his wrist/hand as if to say that he did this, not the brush, which is genius, its like a story, narrative, beautiful. Wonderful job!
Very interesting. I like the concept, but I wish you had a little more control over your depth-of-field. There's one corner of the calligraphy which is in sharp focus, whereas the rest is soft, and the end of the brush is soft. Also crop in a little tighter to completely fill the background with the calligraphy, so the uneven edges of the paper don't show. I'd also consider turning him to face the camera, at least his face if not his body as well (that would help with the DOF).
I like the fact he is not looking at the lens but could be looking at a new peice of work. I agree crop might be stronger if cropped a little tighter - for me at least. A strong portrait and I trust the Prof likes it.
