Wooden Mountain

An old tree stump not far from where I live. This was my first time using split-grade printing and now I can see why so many people use this method.

Looks great in terms of texture which is what makes or breaks this print.

It would be instructive if you posted the best you could get without split grade for comparison. That's assuming of course that scanning at this size would reveal the difference.

Unfortunately in terms of subtle differences we're often not looking at what is actually in front of you when it gets to the gallery.

Thanks for the comments. I haven't got a scan of the pre-split-grade print handy at the moment but it would be no problem to get it online at some point. The main difference that I noticed was that it was much easier to control the contrast, in the first print it kept coming out too flat/dark even at high contrast grades (this is probably more to do with my poor printing than the techniques but as a beginner I found split-grade printing much more controllable).

I have kept coming back to this image over the last couple of days. It really is growing on me more and more, really a fantastic image!! In a strange sort of way it reminds me of Devils Tower in Wyoming.

Thank you for sharing.
