this is a board labelled, "tactical control and status" which i picked up at a surplus electronics sale. it's for a series i'm working on regarding electronics. i picked this item up knowing i would be putting bokeh to use in composition and getting just the right feel i want is proving more difficult than i thought.

have you made similar images? what about them makes them feel "right" to you?

i never knew un-focusing was more difficult than focusing. :)

i'll keep playing, it's a lot of fun. this was shot with a 4.5/210 heliar.

This is an intriguing image. The lines draw the eye from sharpness to blur and back again. Really neat.

I'm not sure whether it would work better as a small, intimate print (perhaps a contact print), or a gigantic print that you can get lost it. I suggest trying it both ways, hanging them side by side, to see which works better.

There are a couple of places where out-of-focus highlights are distracting, and might want to be spotted down. One is almost exactly dead center, and the other (actually, a cluster of three) is just slightly to the right of dead center.

There is a rectangular area of blur just below the center of the image that strikes me as a bit distracting. I'm not sure what the right treatment would be - if you make a new negative that renders that area as sharp, it might be even more distracting because it would then dominate the image and take away from the wonderful sense of chaos.

thanks for the notes. i definitely want to print an image like this large i think.
