Wind Blown Tree

An isolated spot on a tall limestone scar right on the exposed edge of Morcambe bay near to Holker. I've revisited this tree on a number of occasions but the light has never been quite right and the background has always been a little too bright. This is proably the best of the bunch. Quite a windy day so some of the branches are a little blurred but the shape of the tree would suggest that it can get a whole lot breezier!

Now most unlikely to return as on my last visit I discovered a faded sign by a gateway, which I'd previosuly only left by and not seen, warning of the dangers of adders on the limestone scars. Given my fear of snakes it will have to be fantastic light to tempt me back anywhere near the site.

Any comments most appreciated.

An amazing tree. It's like the cartoon trees just as the tornado arrives. I think you've judged the light perfectly. A great sky with clouds would take the eye from the tree.

Pity about the adders but they've always been there and the chances of a bite are very remote. I wonder how many have been bitten while simply walking there as opposed to doing things like seeing movement and then lifting rocks or just "investigating" as they shouldn't do.

I am sure the notice isn't untrue and there will be adders there but the chances of being bitten while walking are about the same or less than being struck by lightning. It's part of that very serious disease called HealthandSafetyitis driven by litigation or the fear thereof.

I hear that mothers of the newlyborn are now given a letter which tells them that their babies are all suffering from a terminal disease called life. Or is that still just a nasty rumour?

Here endeth the rant.

Great shot

Get some high leather boots, and visit your wonderful tree.

Snakes are our friends:wink: Just don't ask me to keep one as a pet.
I love that tree...strength and endurance comes to mind.

Nice print. Kind of like a bad hair day for trees

Many thanks for all the kind comments, and I especially liked the cartoon and bad hair references.

With regard to my getting back out there, well I'm afraid that might not be so easy, as when I stepped back through that gateway commonsense and rationality would go right out of the window. This is a phobia you know, brought on, I am pretty sure, by a childoood encounter with what must have been at least a 20 foot long adder, while retrieving a cricket ball. I'm coming out a cold sweat just typing this now. Please don't make me go back there!!!

Cheers all
Graham
