White Mask

Seen downtown recently. I return to this spot often, hoping for something like this, as I know the light is pretty interesting on a sunny afternoon. One day - I got my wish.

The mask images are tough because they have a dampening effect on our concepts of humanity especially when the eyes are missing in the equation. One of the best mask images I can think of is Ted Grants image from a series made during a surgery where a nurse is looking up from the patient at the surgeon. The eyes allow that entire world to be understood by the viewer. The eyes can disclose worlds otherwise invisible to the casual human.

This is cool. The hat and mask really jump out of the shadows.
