Where We Lived

This was where I lived from aged 0 to 3. I can just about remember it! My Father took this about 1958 (before I was born-just) using I believe a zeiss ikonta that has long since disappeared

Great picture, and congrats on keeping it alive after 55 years! Please explain that roof if you can!

Beautiful. How old is the house and is it still there?

It was a neg that turned up recently. The cottage has a thatched roof. Traditionally done in either reed or long straw (I don't know which this is). Basically, bundles of reeds or straw are pinned into place to form the roof covering and then neatly trimmed. The roof here is in very poor condition from its ragged appearance. It's a very traditional roofing system still being used today. The style varies from county to county depending on tradition and available materials. The cottage was originally 1700s. I don't know if it's still there - we haven't been back and can't find it on Streetview/Google maps, but the area has changed so much.
