Wet Sand and Coquina Rock

To my amazement, there don't seem to be rocks in the northeastern part of Florida that I now reside in. The rock in this image is an aggregate of shells called coquina that is rocklike, but not a real rock in the sense I know it.

*" Also known as coquina, from the Spanish for cockleshell, Anastasia limestone is composed primarily of shell and coral fragments, fossils and sand. Small fossils are clearly visible in the rock faces, most commonly the shells of small clams and oysters or pieces of a large snail called Busycon." from the Nature Conservancy's Blowing Rocks Preserve website.

Thank you mfohl, tony, Totc, and Michael. Actually, Michael, it's been unpleasantly warm and humid far too long here, but finally dried out and got significantly cooler just today. I really miss autumn color, and wouldn't be unhappy wearing a jacket for a while either. The trick is to win the lottery, and have a selection of homes to live in in different seasons. hehehe...fat chance!!

You making a fine transition to Florida light ... Really nice image(s) ! It is cooler now with far less skeeters so I'm ready to get going too .
