Weegee Night at the Stampede

At least once a year I organize a Weegee night for our Large Format Users Group here in Calgary. This year it was at our Stampede.

I found that most people seemed glued to their cellphones while walking around the grounds. Either texting or talking, but certainly not paying any attention to either the people they were with or the people around them.

The last photo in the series is a "news" type of photo taken just after an accident with one of the rides.

Classic, and wholly suited for the "Weegee night", except that it is not dark  I hope the persons involved are all right though...

There were 17 kids injured with a ride came apart and one of the cars flew about 25 meters before hitting the ground. Fortunately no one was killed but they did have 6 or 7 EMS trucks there to cart the wounded off to hospital.

What I like about this image is that it intimates something has happened but doesn't show you. You have all the elements, bystander gawking, police tape, cop and EMS truck.

Really great series. Everybody loaded down with comm devices. I have a psychiatrist friend who collects burnt out cell phones and hands them out to his patients, so when they hear voices when they are walking the street, they simply talk into the phones and appear as normal to the world.

Lake your series a lot. Tells a good story about the way we communicate. We rather communicate true electronics than taking to those present.
