When photographing flowing water I came across a reciprocity problem. Most of the time I bracketed, exposing once as the meter told me and second time according to the reciprocity failure table. The latter images have nice details in shadows but are quite light overall (even though I did N-1 development). What is your experience with reciprocity failure and how do you deal with it?
I think you're doing yourself a big disservice by just doing straight scans on these I think some localized dodging and burning could improve them greatly.
I totally disagree with realitysandwich\\\'s comment. This website is dedicated to the analog image not \\\"photoshoped\\\" pictures. If there is to be dodging and burning and displayed here, it should be done in the darkroom and then re-scanned and presented. If anything, by showing your images in the critique gallery, it provides you with the opportunity for other photographers to beneficially critique your work. If you display a perfect manipulated digital imaging and still make poor prints in the darkroom, then you haven't benefited from the critiques. There are 100s of opportunities to do digital imaging all over the place. This is one of the few places that traditional photographers can share their work in its actual form. There is nothing wrong with digitally manipulated images. It\\\'s just wrong to do it here because it runs counter to the stated objective of this group!
Good shadow detail is important and it sounds like your reciprocity-adjusted negative is pretty close to what you want for exposure. If the information is in the negative, then you have a start. Adjust your printing time and paper grade to achieve the mood you want.
It may the film your trying to use. I tested it a couple years ago and got no where. It has a very limited range and the darker values end up mushy. I say this but it could be my process but your results look very similar to mine.
