This one is for Dave Wooten, who insisted that I post this image on APUG. He told me that he had been informed there could be no ice in Zion during the January 2nd - 6th large format workshop, and I was to post this shot which was taken on January 4th. So to prove his point that there was ice there, I finally became a subscriber and here it is.
This image is from Clear Creek, which I was introduced to, by Claire Curran, a fabulous photographer and a wonderful sharing person. This is a water worn pocket in a stream bed in bedrock. This pocket retained water from the last rains from about 3 or 4 days prior and an ice sheet formed over the top. Due to some water loss and perhaps intermittent freeze cycles the ice developed the patterns seen here. The frosted areas have air pockets beneath the ice, and you can also see the "grinding cobbles" through the small area of ice which is still in contact with the water.
