Wastwater in snow

Having walked in 3 miles through snow to get here, this was the viewpoint where I first tried using my father-in-laws Gandolfi 5x4. This was just over 5 years ago. The best of the light came and went as I discovered how quickly lightmeter batteries fade in the cold, that blu-tack and filters aren't at their best in the cold, that incorrectly loaded film in Dark slides can be guillotined when trying to get the slide back in etc etc. So this was more of a record shot and a kind of reward made on the Bronica after the aforementioned lessons had been registered.

I seems like a worth while reward for the effort, the blue cast emphasises the cold. Like BobF I have only visited this spot in normal weather; rain.

Thanks Bob and Dave. This was a first for me too, in terms of the location, use of LF and the white stuff. Just getting there by foot, I experienced rear drop (more than once), front tilt as well as some swing. Cameras were still firmly in the rucksack.
Am really fed up with continual grey skies here at present, so dug out some old shots which I had to scan for the photo-library.

Great shot anyway Baxter. Too bad you had to re-learn a few painful lessons. BTW, I loved your images in the online Large Format magazine someone pointed out a few days ago. I really enjoy your work.

Thanks Barry and Robert.

Camping sounds keener than I am, being a soft southerner!

I was learning the lessons for the first time Robert, since I had only used the 5x4 camera once before. The opposite of a baptism of fire. It was one of those occasions when I knew that an observer would have been in fits of laughter, i could see the funny side, but was so frustrated at how crap I was! This was when the gauntlet I mentioned in the LF Journal was thrown. Just after I'd made this picture.

Glad you enjoyed the LFJ pictures, it was a pleasant surprise to be asked to contribute. I am sure that there are a good many of us here on APUG and elsewhere who would love to see your work there. Why not drop them a line? The electronic format means that they are not constrained by page count.

Great study in winter blue. The wife had to bring in hot chocolate and a survival blanket.
