This is a really nice photo. Could I offer one or two recommendations? If it were possible to include all of the bench then the focal point of the picture changes somewhat to the bench which would give the image even greater visual interest. If there where a person or object on the bench that was clearly related to current times it might be very nice. And if that object, compositionally, was a counter weight to the coin operated thing on the right it might be nice too. The scene is very rich as if it is a stage waiting for the players to come on.
I rarely comment on the photos (though I look closely at most of them). But this one is so good it hurts. Severe. Atmospheric. Spartan. Not a single wasted photon. I think that viewers often respond more positively to work that seems to parallel what they feel is their own vision. This is natural, and may be at work here for me. Now if I only had "martyryan's" talent...
(I also note "SuzanneR" used that familiar descriptor that so often seems to be associated with Kodachrome...)
I have to disagree with Mr. Callow. The elements have a nice graphic balance just as they are. And a person would just ruin it. A bench with a person sitting is not a bench waiting for a person to be sitting.
