I Was heading home after visiting my sister in Swansea. My train from Grantham to Boston was first delayed for an hour. I had my Yashica matt in my bag so I took this photograph to pass the time.
After waiting for a while it was announced that the train was cancelled. So I shared a Taxi back to Boston with a couple of people who were also trying to get back to Boston.
There's always something lonely about a railway scene. You've captured this well. I have a LCD screen that darkens shots if I scroll down to read the details.
As I was doing this, slightly darkening this shot seemed to work even better, given of course that I have got the feeling of loneliness correct.
Pity about the electricity. Railways lost a lot of their atmosphere with the loss of steam.
Yes I was conveying loneliness into this shot, the use of the orange filter gave those tones.
The station master must have thought I was lonely and in despair as he came dashing up the platform thinking as I was right up at the end of the platform I was about to jump off in front of the next train.
When he saw I had a camera he told me I couldn't take photographs. So I only got off the one frame.
I don't mind waiting at Grantham because it is a main line station and trains can come through at over 100mph, the diesel freight trains are most impressive, I like all the noise and the ground trembling beneath my feet.
