Second visit to this site after the first one was sub-par. Once I saw the clouds I knew it would be a much more successful attempt. The trees are absolutely gorgeous now they're losing their trees. I took another shot in colour on my Mamiya which I'm interested to see. Might be enough to make me finally try some colour 4x5 for these shots.
That looks quite nice. I can't say I remember seeing this when I last went out that way. There's a nice old shed along the road too - when I was out there last the light was wrong, it needs morning light.
Yeah it's a lovely little church, though it's in dire need of a really good paint job. It's tucked away a little. It's still in the residential area, only 400m past the bridge and well before the houses finish.
I know and love that shed. One day I'll man-up and find/ask the farmer if I can set foot on his land and photograph it. The rest of the road is nice, but I always find the coast rather uninspiring for some reason. Maybe I just need to walk around it one sunset.
It's not exactly common, and hasn't really been done for around 100 years now. But there are quite a number of buildings that have these braces, either simple ones like this or completely filled-in triangles. It only seemed to be done do buildings that were intended to last, and I think depended on the architect too. Churches and town halls seem to be the main buildings with this bracing systems.
