Sometime ago (in August) I posted an image asking for comment. I am grateful for those received, particularly the constructive suggestions from Thomas Bertilsson and Jordanstarr. While I attempted to work out their suggestions I eventually settled on my own approach, being:
1. Determining the foreground and cloud effects I wanted and envisioned at the time of exposure
2. The difference determined above was that the clouds needed 2 1/3 stop more exposure while roadway was held back by ¼ stop
3. I took a leaf from the book Way Beyond Monochrome by Ralph W Lambrecht and Chris Woodhouse and cut a mask for the foreground to assist in holding it back during the exposure of the sky.
4. The resulting sliver of white (unexposed) at the edge of the hills was touched in after washing and drying.
This has been a very instructive process and am looking at some of my other negatives in a new light!
