Based on the shape of the beak, I suspect it is a raven. How'd you get that close to him?

I was near the Cliff House and the Giant Camera Obscura overlooking Ocean Beach here in San Francisco. This is a popular tourist spot and the birds are quite comfortable around people. I just slowly walked up to him and got within 5 or 6 feet, helped to have the 35-135mm zoom.

Ravens are very brave birds. With a short tele it's easy to fill the frame.
